A successful megaproject was delivered by the head contractor to the NSW government and was declared as being on-time and on-budget.
But was it a success for the subcontractors?
ENGAGEMENT
Calibrate was engaged by a major subcontractor to undertake a review of a preliminary disruption claim.
This subcontractor had experienced significant disruption to its works in terms of access, sequencing and interfaces with other subcontractors. However, the subcontractor had been unsuccessful to date with proving its claim to the head contractor.
Calibrate undertook a detailed review of the subcontractor’s documentation and project records. Using its expertise, Calibrate was able to re-validate the subcontractor’s claim for loss of productivity and establish causal links to the disruptive events.
The subcontractor’s ability to maintain disciplined project records proved crucial. Its project control systems allowed labour hours to be tracked by task and location and was paramount in bridging lost productivity and causation. Without this system, it would not have been possible to perform the type of rigorous analysis required to sway the head contractor.
Calibrate’s capacity to process the available evidence of delay and disruptive events and effectively link this to the impact on the subcontractor’s activities was crucial to substantiating why the losses in productivity were caused by circumstances out of the subcontractor’s control.
Though the subcontractor did not possess perfect records, Calibrate was able to demonstrate, with a reasonable degree of accuracy, the extent of disruption and apportion it to compensable causes.
Using its findings, Calibrate prepared an updated disruption claim for the subcontractor.
OUTCOME
Calibrate’s expertise in analysing and distilling complex issues into a succinct and convincing position provided the subcontractor with a strong platform to pursue its claim against the head contractor. Ultimately the subcontractor utilised Calibrate’s findings to negotiate a successful outcome.
